Sandal Castle’s story reaches back to the early twelfth century. The Battle of Wakefield took place nearby on 30 December 1460, and the site was later connected with Richard III.
Today, the ruins and surrounding paths offer wide views across Wakefield and the Calder Valley — with the café close by for breakfast, lunch or a warm drink.
